BBC tribunal continues

Recently, there have been several PR failures that could easily have been avoided if the public relations agency had been listened to. It’s a good lesson to learn that if the public relations agency shows concern, then this should be a stark warning. The BBC has been under fire since it changed its Countryfile programme and sacked four female presenters. They were accused of ageism and sexism and a tribunal is now under way about the case. It has emerged during the tribunal though that the press office at the BBC had shown concern about the issue. The press office at the BBC had reportedly drawn up a strategy before the relaunch of the show and had stated concerns about the decision to axe the presenters. The strategy stated that there may be accusations of ageism and sexism which could result in negative press. Now it seems that the BBC have landed themselves in hot water over this issue which the press office was seemingly very aware of and had warned the corporation about. Sometimes, businesses might feel like gambling and going against the advice of a PR consultancy, but as this case shows, this can often backfire as a PR agency often knows best. Share this
